Helpful Suggestions
Its now officially 23 days until I leave for Camp and now that we're in the last stretch, I'm trying to get everything sorted before I leave.
Waterproof Watch and Alarm Clock
I've been placed, I've paid all my fees, Completed my CA profile To Do List, attended the orientation, had my Visa appointment and now, I'm just counting down the days!I'm now in the final stages and am now spending my time packing and organising.
There are a couple of items I've bought along the way or some helpful tips I've gotten that I think others could benefit from knowing about.
Waterproof Watch and Alarm Clock
One of my favourite items that I've gotten is my Xiaomi Mi Band. Its is a cheaper alternative to a Fit-bit and I will be using it primarily as a watch and as an alarm in the morning. The band works by connecting to your phone via an app and uses Bluetooth so you will need to have your phone if you want to access the app. The app just stores all the info you have collected and you dont really need to access that every day. The band has lots of different features that will come in handy:
- It keeps track of your heart rate, your steps for the day and it even vibrates if you get a notification on your phone.
- You can change the settings so that it will only notify for certain apps so that it will only vibrate when you get calls or texts.
- You use the app to set the times you want the alarm to go off and it will buzz at the set times! There is no notification sound so you dont have to worry about waking everybody else up at the same time if you're getting up slightly earlier. (My camp has asked me to get an alarm for the mornings and so I will be using this!).
- The band is waterproof so you can wear this while showering, in the pool or in a lake if your camp has one. (I have tested this and it holds up!)
- The charge on the watch lasts ages so you dont have to worry about charging it every night.
- You can buy different coloured bands to suit your preference.
The link to it is here on Amazon for less than £25 :)

Booking seats for the flight
The next thing I think people could benefit from knowing, is how to book your seats for your flight to Camp. One of the girls I am going to Camp with posted on our staff page that she knew how to book specific seats on the flight and she explained how to do it.
As someone who was hired at the recruitment event, I was lucky to make friends early with some of the people I would be going to camp with. Having already made some friends, we wanted to sit together on the long plane journey so we at least had a friendly face. Knowing how to select your seats allowed us to book seats together on both of our flights so now we know the set up!
How you do it is you go onto their airlines website that you're flying with and you want to check the details for your flight. For example, if you're flying with United then you would click on the 'My Trip' tab on the first page and insert you flight confirmation number. This is your PNR number which is found on the 'Flight' tab on your CA profile. You put this in and your surname and it should come up with a page that allows for you to select your seats. So now, if you know some of the people you're going with, you can sit together on your flight :)
Ordering Bedding
One last tip is that if your Camp is like mine and wants you to organise all your own bedding for you stay, you should order it online straight to your Camp! My Camp has told us to bring sheets, pillows and blankets to Camp and one of my initial questions with that was how I was going to manage with that when I would already be struggling with the weight limit of my case.
My Camp gave me the option of ordering things to Camp so that they would be there when I arrived.
I used Kmart to order my things and I ordered:
- 2x Twin Fitted Sheets
- 2x Pillows
- 2x Pillow Cases
- 1x Mattress Protector
- 1x Blanket (Nice in between from a top sheet and duvet/quilt)
- 1x Towel
This order came to a total of $83 and that works out at about £62. That's a good amount of stuff for the price I paid and it will be waiting for me when I get to Camp. Ordering was super quick and easy and there were no real issues with ordering from an American website to an America address from here in Scotland. There were no additional charges and I even qualified for free delivery because of what I spent! I would recommend Kmart to anyone else who has to order their stuff online as it seems to work out cheaper than Target or Walmart!
I hope the item recommendation and the tips are helpful suggestions to anyone who is looking for some before they head to Camp!
