Its now officially 23 days until I leave for Camp and now that we're in the last stretch, I'm trying to get everything sorted before I leave. I've been placed, I've paid all my fees, Completed my CA profile To Do List, attended the orientation, had my Visa appointment and now, I'm just counting down the days!I'm now in the final stages and am now spending my time packing and organising. There are a couple of items I've bought along the way or some helpful tips I've gotten that I think others could benefit from knowing about. Waterproof Watch and Alarm Clock One of my favourite items that I've gotten is my Xiaomi Mi Band . Its is a cheaper alternative to a Fit-bit and I will be using it primarily as a watch and as an alarm in the morning. The band works by connecting to your phone via an app and uses Bluetooth so you will need to have your phone if you want to access the app. The app just stores all the info you have collected and

Visa Appointment

One of the things I have been most anxious and curious about in my Camp America process was the Visa Appointment. In order to work for the summer for Camp America, you must get your J1 Visa. This means collecting and filling out all the correct paper work, organising a trip to either Belfast or London and then travelling all the way to one of these locations to the American Embassy.  Once you have been placed, you will get the notification that the 'Visa' tab on your CA profile will have been updated to allow you to start the Visa process. Once you have received your DS 2019, you must then complete your Sevis I-901. Once you have paid for this and have completed the form, you then want to PRINT OFF YOUR CONFIRMATION. This part is extremely important as this is one of the most important documents you will need when  you get to your Visa appointment.  You will then follow the link provided to book your embassy appointment. I selected mine for the 1st of May and this then

Glasgow Orientation Session

One of the things that I have been really excited for these past few weeks, was attending the Glasgow Orientation.I was excited for it as it was one step closer to going to Camp, but I really didn't have an idea of what to expect and so I thought a blog post about it could be beneficial for anyone else that wants an idea of what to expect.  I attended the Glasgow orientation on the 21st of April and had a great experience. With only 42 days left until we were leaving for Camp, myself and a few friends I'm going to be going to Camp with headed off to the orientation. - I was lucky enough to have been hired at the Edinburgh recruitment event and so I had already met some of the people I would be going to Camp with and had had the time to find and connect with others who would be attending. However, there was a closed Facebook group created by Camp America that allowed people to make plans to meet up with others so that they wouldn't have to attend the event alone or to

48 Days To Go!

Im super excited to be starting this blog to document my time in the states this summer working at YMCA Camp Letts in Maryland! I've managed to secure this amazing opportunity through Camp America and I have also been lucky enough to be selected to be one of Camp Americas Story Tellers for 2018. This means that Camp America has asked me to document my time and experience this summer. I am going to try and document as much as I can; including my planning and prep before I go to Camp, my time at Camp and my after Camp Travels. To start with, I should probably introduce myself. I know there will be people that I know in real life who will be reading this out of curiosity, so those people can skip the introduction. My name is Jade, I'm 19 and I live in a small village in Lanarkshire, Scotland. I currently work full time as a receptionist but decided that life is too short to not take chances like this and so with some encouragement from my friends and family, I applied for
