Glasgow Orientation Session
One of the things that I have been really excited for these past few weeks, was attending the Glasgow Orientation.I was excited for it as it was one step closer to going to Camp, but I really didn't have an idea of what to expect and so I thought a blog post about it could be beneficial for anyone else that wants an idea of what to expect.
I attended the Glasgow orientation on the 21st of April and had a great experience. With only 42 days left until we were leaving for Camp, myself and a few friends I'm going to be going to Camp with headed off to the orientation.
- I was lucky enough to have been hired at the Edinburgh recruitment event and so I had already met some of the people I would be going to Camp with and had had the time to find and connect with others who would be attending. However, there was a closed Facebook group created by Camp America that allowed people to make plans to meet up with others so that they wouldn't have to attend the event alone or to ask questions about the orientation.
I got to see lots of groups of people be created who wanted to travel with/ meet up with other people attending the event, so if you're attending without any friends from Camp then dont worry, there's plenty of opportunity to make friends!
For anyone wanting to know what the event was like, it was a super fun experience that got everyone into the Camp mood! There was loads of activities and games that made everyone mingle and interact with each other that you could easily take to Camp to use with your campers and co-counsellors.
It was also really informative and went through everything you would want to know; from how much money is recommended to take, to Child Protection policies.
It also gave you the opportunity to meet Camp America staff face to face and ask them any questions you maybe felt weren't big enough to send via email.
Overall, the Orientation was a really cool opportunity that I think benefited everyone who attended, and anyone who didn't attend out of choice really missed out!
I hope this post helps anyone who (like me) just wanted to know as much as possible about what to expect with their Camp America journey and that I've made the orientation sound as fun as it was!
